Questions, answered
The things homeowners, landlords and businesses ask us most about asbestos. Still unsure? Ask us anything.
Asbestos basics
How do I know if a material contains asbestos?
You can’t tell by looking — it has to be sampled and tested at a laboratory. If your property was built or refurbished before 2000 and you’re unsure about a material, don’t disturb it. We can take a sample and have it tested at a UKAS-accredited lab, usually with a quick turnaround.
Is it dangerous to me and my family?
Asbestos that is in good condition and left undisturbed is generally low-risk. The danger comes from breathing in fibres released when it’s damaged, drilled, sanded or broken up. That’s exactly why removal and testing should be done by trained specialists rather than as DIY.
Surveys
Do I need a survey before building work or demolition?
Yes. A refurbishment & demolition survey is a legal requirement before that kind of work in a property that may contain asbestos. It identifies any asbestos so it can be removed or managed before the work starts. We carry out both management and refurbishment/demolition surveys.
Removal
Do you remove asbestos garage and shed roofs?
Yes — asbestos-cement garage roofs, shed roofs, soffits, fascias and complete garages are some of the most common jobs we do. We remove them carefully, take everything away for licensed disposal, and can arrange a replacement roof at the same time if you’d like.
Disposal
What happens to the asbestos waste?
Asbestos is hazardous waste — it can’t go in a skip or a normal tip. We double-wrap and label it, transport it as an Environment Agency-registered carrier, and dispose of it at a licensed facility. You receive the consignment notes that prove the whole chain of custody.
Coverage
Which areas do you cover?
We’re based in Southampton and cover Hampshire, Berkshire, Surrey and the surrounding Home Counties — roughly within 50 miles of Southampton. If you’re not sure whether you’re in range, send us your postcode and we’ll confirm straight away.
Pricing
How much does asbestos removal cost?
It depends on the material, the amount and the access — which is why we carry out a site survey and give a clear, fixed written quote before any work begins. There are no surprises once we’ve quoted, and no obligation to go ahead.
Emergencies
Can you respond in an emergency?
Yes. If asbestos has been damaged, disturbed or exposed — a storm-hit roof, fire or flood damage, or material found mid-works — we’re on call 24/7 to make the area safe and deal with it properly.
